Puma evoTOUCH PRO FG Review
Puma soccer cleats are recognized for some of the most advanced technologies and features on the market. The international brand has been going strong in the past year with special releases, many of them made in collaboration with famous players.
The evoTOUCH PRO FG (Check pricing on Amazon) is one of the simplest choices when it comes to finding the best leather uppers for you to experience natural movements. But the leather upper is not the only feature of the cleats which the manufacturer added for natural movements, as the boots come with the evoKNIT sock. It must be said that not all soccer players enjoy this type of sock, but it does have its use in the comfort department.
The collar is not as fit as what we are used with when it comes to other brands such as Nike and Adidas. It is very easy to get in and out of the shoe, which is weird, especially if you tried other collar cleats before. But the fit of the collar will also depend on the ankles of the player. The thicker the ankle, the better the fit is.
While the sock-like feel might be considered comfortable it can`t always be considered the best option for stability and safety. This is why Puma added the GripTex insole and heel tape. This manages to limit slippage inside the shoe. This technology is based on a number of arrows which prevent slippage.
The soleplate is both new and old. Although Puma has been praised for the quality of the leather upper, it seems the soleplate is the best feature of the evoTOUCH PRO FG soccer cleats. The heel comes with the classical configuration of 4 studs. In playability, this means you`ll get a quicker response and release but a good acceleration and traction also.
The forefoot comes with 7 studs. These studs can cover most of the pressure zones from the forefoot. They can evenly distribute the weight which is what most players need.
There is a good transition between the heel studs and the forefoot studs with the Speedtrack spine. While many players can be worried on the possible reduced flexibility of the added spine, Puma has managed to provide the right balance between sturdiness and elasticity. This makes the spines one of the best we`ve seen from the German manufacturer.
Playability and final notes on the Puma evoTOUCH PRO FG
Puma always had pressure to produce quality cleats, especially with the leather choices. With just 7.5oz it seems the cleats have the perfect weight for a fast performer. There are many options on the market which offer some stitching on the forefoot but this is not the case with the evoTOUCH Pro. There is a seamless forefoot which enhances the natural feel of the touch.
So who are the cleats for? In terms of playability, they might be used by most players. But then the heel counter has made a considerable step towards people with smaller feet, which will feel very comfortable in a shoe which has very much potential. But smaller feet may also mean smaller ankles and this is why you need to ensure you are ready to use the collar Puma has implemented with the cleats. It feels like Puma`s first cleats with a collar are decent enough. The strong points are the K-leather which manages to provide one of the most natural feels in its category and sets the standard quite high for Puma`s future.
